Read: Psalm 23:2

Discuss:
1. Reflect on the weekend’s message, Overflowing Rest. What principle or insight stands out as being particularly helpful, insightful or challenging?
2. Define rest. How does rest differ from sleep?
3. Read Genesis 2:2-3. Note the rhythm of work and rest. What does this tell you about God’s view of rest? How does this Scripture describe rest? What are some possible reasons for God resting following creation?
4. What are obstacles you face to experiencing rest?
5. Read Mark 6:31-34. What does this scripture reveal about Jesus’ attitude toward rest? What obstacles did he face? How did he respond to those obstacles? Continue reading Mark 6:45-46. How did Jesus ultimately achieve rest?

1. When was the first time you remember hearing Psalm 23? What significance, if any, does this psalm have in your life?
2. Have you ever observed a shepherd at work? Describe what you observed?
3. What are the contrasts between the “good shepherd” and the “hired hand” in John 10?
4. How are the activities of a shepherd (provide, protect, guide and correct) displayed in Psalm 23 and John 10?
